12:51 am - An alternative to watching the upcoming G.I.Joe movie:
Read this,* and then watch these.**

There are currently 10 episodes, each approximately 5 minutes apiece. That equates to something like 3 hours of awesomeness, I think.

*This is optional.
**This, I command.

Sorry, J-Rock. This is another one of those things you have to make Zwookie watch. He will, again, appreciate it to it's fullest.

6:18 pm - iPhone Apps
Now that I've [finally] synced up my iPhone with my iTunes account, I'm finally able to add Apps to the bad boy. I've looked at a couple top App lists, and there are some good ones on there, but many of them I don't see myself ever using. So, I'm asking that you good people recommend some good ones to me. It doesn't matter if they're free or not (of course I prefer free), but I got a $50 iTunes gift card for Christmas, and since I pretty much just pirate all my music, my iPhone will probably be primarily what I use it for.

So, favorite Apps! Enlighten me!

Keanu Reeves has been confirmed as the actor chosen to play Spike Spiegel in the upcoming live-action Cowboy Bebop movie. How does that make you feel?

Multiple sources.

Maybe they can get Lindsay Lohan to play Faye?

2:17 pm - "It seems you have quite a fondness for movies. "
Paprika is best described as equal parts Spirited Away, Ghost in the Shell and Akira. And yes, this is a very good thing.

Sigh. Okay, The Cell, too.

You should watch it anyway.

I also watched Steamboy and Primer, which were less fantastic, although Primer deserves a rewatch.

8:17 pm - We're missing something.
When I tell people that I've started watching House, M.D., they typically tell me the same things every time: 1. It's a good show; 2. It can be formulaic; and, if this person is a woman, 3. Hugh Laurie is soooo sexy. Well I don't know about that one, but I can attest that the first two points are not only valid, but spot on.

I've seen about 13 episodes of the show now: about 5 of the current season and 8 of the first season, and I agree. House, M.D. is a good show. But calling it kind of formulaic? That's like saying Hitler was kind of a mass-murderer. In every episode you can be relatively positive that the following will happen:

1. Something goes wrong, patient gets spooky, unknowable disease and gets admitted into the hospital. House initially misdiagnoses the patient a few times, and finding that he's wrong, his curiosity is spiked and he and his team take the case and get to work.
2. Patient or patient's loved ones will tell a member of the House team something inaccurate, or, more likely, an outright lie. (This doesn't always happen, but it usually does)
3. House's team misdiagnoses the patient.
4. Patient begins to seizure.*
5. House's team once again misdiagnoses the patient.
6. Patient's heart stops and the team has to start it again or the patient will die.*
7. House's team once again misdiagnoses the patient.
8. Patient almost dies.
9. House's team figures out what's really causing the patient to be ill and narrowly saves his/her/their lives.
10. "Why did you lie to us??" (This doesn't always happen, but it usually does)
11. Patient gets better and we realize that maybe this House fellow isn't such a bad person after all.

*The order in which the patient seizures and their heart stops can be interchangeable with each other, but you can be sure that the patient will definitely suffer both at some point.

Formulaic: (adj.) 1. closely following a formula or predictable pattern; imitative, not original.

The very fact that this show continues to be good is as astounding and unknowable as the diseases the patients get.

(-10 points for overuse of italics)

EDIT: You'll all be happy to know I've cracked the case: Approximately 1 in every 5 or 6 episodes, there shines brilliance. It still follows the guidelines I stated above, but the individual plotlines and the characterizations of the players are heightened in sheer moments of beauty, and that's what makes the show good. Okay, I didn't crack the case at all. [info]webwawa did.
